Sleep apnea and other sleep issues are plaguing a growing number of people worldwide. Dentist Avi Weisfogel is doing something about it. He has figured a number of ways to treats sleep apnea and other sleep problems using dentistry. His work is a godsend for countless people because sleep deprivation can wreck people’s appearance and lead to dire long-term physical and mental problems. Thanks to Dr. Avi Weisfogel, a growing number of sleep patients can now enjoy a good night’s sleep.
Dr. Weisfogel became intrigued by the link between dentistry and sleep problems while working on his DDS degree at NYU College of Dentistry. He was also able to draw on the information he gathered while earning his bachelor’s degree in psychology and biology from Rutgers University. Once he completed his DDS, Dr. Weisfogel founded Old Bridge Dental Care, a New Jersey based dental office. During the 14 years he ran the facility, his excellent dental work won him numerous awards. Dr. Weisfogel was also simultaneously working with sleep patients to find ways to help them.
Soon he developed a unique understanding of how dental technologies and equipment could treat sleep problems. Dr. Weisfogel began to design and produce custom-made dental appliances to help sleep patients get a full night’s sleep without having their breathing interrupted. Not satisfied to just help patients with sleep problems himself, he has created a number of organizations through which he teaches other dentists how they too can help patients with sleep problems. He now travels all over the world teaching dentists how to set up sleep labs and create dental appliances to treat sleep patients.
Dr. Avi Weisfogel has trained a growing international network of health professionals to create the tools necessary to treat sleep problems. In 2012 he founded Owner Unlimited Sleep Patients, a think tank where dentists and sleep experts share information. Dr. Weisfogel also created Dental Sleep Masters, a program designed to teach dentists to create oral appliances that improve patients’ sleep by ensuring their airways are clear. For 20 years Dr. Avi Weisfogel has been helping people with sleep problems.
