Securus Technologies, Putting People First

Securus Technologies, the company that’s been connecting people for many years, has undergone some recent enhancements. The company has acquired another major player, GovPayNet. This company processes payments for governmental agencies and has been around for over 20 years. Examples of the types of payments processed include cash bail, probation, court fees, and traffic citations. Combined with the communications services offered by Securus, the companies anticipate even more growth. JPay is another company also recently acquired by Securus Technologies. The company has been working on technology, however, previously specialized in money transfer and prepaid money services.

All three of the companies are working towards getting wireless containment systems in facilities. The WCS technology is important because it adds safety and security by blocking contraband cell phones. Working as a cell tower, the caller is unable to connect with the appropriate cell tower to complete the call. The caller is then notified that the call has been disconnected. Numerous crimes and even a murder have been traced back to contraband wireless devices, so this project is of the utmost importance. There are even people trying to make the technology required by law in facilities. Although it’s still being tested, the devices have been noted as having very promising results.

Even with all the recent improvements, Securus Technologies still remains focused on the people it serves. Since customers keep their business going, they’ve been constantly working to keep everyone happy. In recent years, the company has been able to reduce the once burdensome cost of keeping in touch with those who are incarcerated. Alternative solutions which are even more cost-effective have been implemented as well. Among these are email, voicemail, and video visitation. Monitoring services are another feature that helps their internal customers, the employees of facilities, do their jobs easier and better. With so many advancements, Securus Technologies is certainly headed for a bright future.

Jim Larkin Disregards Donald Trump for his Pardon of Sheriff Joe Arpaio

Phoenix New Times owner Jim Larkin discussed the pardon of former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Sheriff Arpaio held this office for 24 years. Many people considered him to be one of the worst law enforcement officials within the state of Arizona.

He was convicted in July 2017 for contempt of court regarding racial profiling practices. His office was ordered by a judge to cease from performing this type of practice but Arpaio continued to run his office using this unlawful tactic.

In November of 2017, Jim Larkin provided some input about this matter. He personally knew about Joe Arpaio’s corruption since he was a former victim of this man’s wrongdoing.

In 2007, Jim Larkin and his Phoenix New Times co-owner, Michael Lacey were both illegally imprisoned by Sheriff Arpaio. The sheriff had them locked up because they exposed his illegal activities to the public through their newspaper.

Larkin and Lacey were both forced out of their home late at night and taken to jail. They were also being required to give up the identities of the customers that subscribed to their newspaper.

The men were held in separate jails, but both were released in less than 24 hours. There was a public outcry for their freedom. Sheriff Arpaio knew that he had to let them go or suffer from the bad publicity.

Eventually, an Arizona court agreed that Larkin and Lacey were both illegally detained. Ultimately, they awarded the men a huge settlement. Larkin and Lacey used most of this money to start the Frontera Fund. This monetary benefit helps to fund migrant, immigration and civil rights organizations. Jim Larkin was not happy about Sheriff Arpaio’s pardon by Donald Trump. He did not like the fact that Arpaio used his pull with the president to get away with illegal activity. Larkin pointed out that Sheriff Arpaio aligned himself with Donald Trump when he first announced his bid for president. Somehow Sheriff Arpaio knew that Trump was going to win this job.

The former Arizona lawman went out of his way to support Trump. He did this back in 2016 and continued to provide support after Trump’s election. After President Trump took office, the sheriff appealed to him for aid during his time of crisis. President Trump gave him a pardon and many people were upset behind this decision. Sources confirm that Sheriff Arpaio was a dishonest sheriff. He ran an illegal prison camp back in 1993. Some sources claim that he called this camp “his personal concentration camp”.

The jails that were operated by Arpaio was filled with death, corruption and abuse. People not only lost their lives in Arpaio’s facilities, they were also mutilated and mangled. The sheriff was even known for racial profiling and his strong ill-will toward illegal immigrants.

Jim Larkin doesn’t agree with Trump’s pardon of Arpaio. He sees it as a smart political move by the former sheriff. Arpaio is no longer in office but he still can influence law enforcement practices in Maricopa County.

Jim Larkin wanted this man to be jailed for his sins. However, Trump’s pardon has stopped that from happening. Larkin might not be thrilled about Sheriff Arpaio’s exoneration but he is happy that Arpaio is no longer a leading law official in Arizona.

The astonishing story behind Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin as the founders of the Frontera Fund

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin were the founders of the Phoenix New Times Newspaper since they were in school as a reaction to the Kent State in the spring of that year. They had faced a lot of challenges before the establishment of that paper. One of the challenges that the two partners faced was the accusation by one of the county sheriffs called Joe Arpaio who had long tome feud with the Phoenix New Times paper.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio had any record of misconduct since his inauguration into the office. He used to mistreat the immigrants by detaining them without the evidence of their migrants’ status. He had even tried to be corrected by his fellow workers, but he could not seize from abusing the constitution of the United States.

Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey had written about Joe Arpaio’s misconduct and abuse of the constitution in the Phoenix New Times paper where a lot of readers had read about it. Joe Arpaio and some of his colleagues had a valuable secret about an investigation about him due to the crisis he had with these partners because of the way they used to write about him and expose him to the citizens. One day, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin exposed this secret to the public which said about how Sheriff Joe Arpaio had ordered the identity of all the readers who had visited the Phoenix website when his behavior was written in the paper. He also ordered to subpoena all the documents that were published in the Phoenix New Times’ website and alt eh documents that were printed.

As a result of this exposure, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin were arrested at from their home at the middle of the night but following the court hearings, the judges dropped the charges, and Sheriff Joe Arpaio had to pay some settlement fee to them.

It is this settlement fee that the two partners used to create the Frontera fund to support those groups that advocate for civil, human and migrants’ rights.

How Jim Larkin Spent His Life Fighting For Workers Rights

James (Jim) Larkin was one of the giants of the early worker’s rights movement. He grew up impoverished and because his family needed him to work he received the barest of formal education.

It was on January 21, 1876, that he was born and after working a variety of low-skilled jobs he ended up with a position on the docks of London loading and unloading cargo. He became a member of the National Union of Dock Labourers (NUDL) at an early age and when he was 29 years old he began working as a trade union organizer on a full-time basis.

Jim Larkin often chose to implement militant strike methods against employers. This alarmed the leadership of NUDL and their solution was to ship him off to Dublin so he couldn’t cause them any more trouble.

Once there, at 31 years old, he established a trade union called the Irish Transport and Workers Union (ITGWU). His goal was to unite all workers, skilled and unskilled alike, into one powerful union to force all types of employers to treat their employees fairly.

Over the course of the next five years Jim Larkin called for a series of strikes for the better treatment of workers, such as 8-hour days and having pension plans among other sought-out issues. He would have members of his union boycott goods and join other workers strikes in order to achieve their goals.

Jim Larkin was very much against Ireland joining the World War and he held very well attended anti-war protests in Dublin. The next year he decided to go to America where he would do a lecture tour and raise money to raise money so that Ireland could fight the British.

He continued to rile people up for workers rights in the US and after being in the country for six years he was arrested, tried, and convicted of being a communist and engaging in criminal anarchy. At the behest of J. Edgar Hoover he was pardoned after serving three years time and was deported back to Ireland.

Once back in Dublin he started another union, Workers Union of Ireland (WUI). He continued to engage in labor organizing activities for the rest of his life in Dublin. He died on January 30, 1947, after he had been in the hospital for over a month. His cause of death was injuries that he had suffered in a fall at his union hall.

Bringing Back Businesses: Gregory Aziz

Very few business leaders are as successful as the entrepreneur and investor Gregory James Aziz. Aziz has had a storied life so far, and his success in business has created a name for himself that others strive to live up to. Particularly, James Aziz has been able to bring several companies back from the brink of bankruptcy and create an industry leader out of them. All of this is due to his knowledge and ability to read the markets and know what strategy is best for a company at any given time.

The first time Greg Aziz was able to show his abilities was at Affiliated Foods, where he earned a management position directly out of college in 1971. Aziz looked long and hard at the business model Affiliated. When he started, the company was focused only on serving Ontario and neighboring provinces, but Aziz wanted much more. He started working with new suppliers and customers, and he promised to bring new and exotic foods into the current mix of goods offered. Aziz singlehandedly brought several suppliers from South America and Europe on board, and he even started to sell to new customers in the United States. Before he arrived, Affiliated Foods had been a struggling, local peddler of foodstuffs, and when he left it was a large, multinational company able to give customers exactly what they wanted.

The second, and most impressive, moment in which Greg Aziz was able to show his ability to read business situations and strategies, was when he purchased National Steel Car in 1994. This company had been profitable and well-known in Ontario in its heyday, but the contraction of the railroad industry and poor management over the previous several decades had left the company stripped of capital and barely able to make ends meet.

Aziz started a massive campaign to improve the engineering and quality of the rail cars produced by National Steel Car. He sunk capital into several projects and created a technologically-advanced plant for the time. He hired thousands of additional workers to help deal with the expected 300 percent increase in production capacity, and he talked to new and old customers about the new quality initiatives taking place. With this, Aziz was able to bring National Steel Car not only back to its former, local glory, but to new heights and international sales. See Related Link for additional information.

Successful business leaders like Greg Aziz come around only once in several decades. These are individuals able to singlehandedly change the course of an industry, and Aziz has shown himself to be one of these businessmen.

For more than a decade NSC has been recognized by the TTX Supplier Evaluation Committee for supplier excellence. Furthermore, NSC is the only railcar manufacturer in North America to obtain a 9001 certification by the International Organization for Standardization.
